Provincial Construction Insurance Program


The Risk Management Branch of the BC Government manages a Provincial Construction Insurance Program encompassing public sector construction projects (most Provincial Government Ministries; Health Care Agencies; Education K-12; Advanced Education, public post secondary institutions, except UBC, UBC Okanagan, UVIC and SFU). The program provides owner-controlled course of construction and wrap-up liability coverage. Contractors are required to insure projects below specified thresholds as noted below.

The following is a list of specific Indemnification and Insurance Clauses to be used with the CCDC 2 - 2008 Supplementary Conditions:

Note: Estimated Project Cost means the total cost of Project excluding the cost of land (eg. all materials, labour, consulting fees etc).

Provincial Government Ministries:
Ministries – Owner Insured - most major construction projects

Health:
Health - Contractor Insured Projects - Estimated Project Cost: less than $1,000,000.00
Health - Owner Insured Projects - Estimated Project Cost: $1,000,000.00 or greater

Education:
Education (K-12) - Contractor Insured Projects - Estimated Project Cost: less than $50,000.00
Education (K-12) - Owner Insured Projects - Estimated Project Cost: $50,000.00 or greater

Advanced Education (excluding UBC, UBC Okanagan, UVIC and SFU):
Advanced Education (Public Post Secondary Institutions) – Contractor Insured Projects - Estimated Project Cost: less than $50,000.00
Advanced Education (Public Post Secondary Institutions) - Owner Insured Projects - Estimated Project Cost: $50,000.00 or greater
