Building Envelope Program

The Building Envelope Program assists provincially-funded School Districts with the identification and remediation of the causes and resultant damage from water ingress where premature failure of the building envelope has occurred in eligible schools.

The Program is funded by the Ministry of Education and administered by the Risk Management Branch of the Ministry of Finance. Post 1984 construction eligibility is required.

The goals of the program are to ensure the health and safety of building occupants, to reduce the risk of similar problems in new construction, and to reduce the net cost to the Province of remediating existing building envelope failures.

These goals will be accomplished by developing a consistent, centrally administered approach that will relieve the School Districts from having to develop specialized expertise in building envelope remediation. Where substantial costs are incurred by School Districts for premature building envelope failure, the districts may apply to the Program for reimbursement of eligible parts of these costs.
