Information Packages:
Name Reservation: The first step in registration of an extraprovincial company is the approval of the name through the Names Unit of the Corporate Registry. Note: The name reserved must be the foreign entity's own name in its current jurisdiction. If that name is not available, the foreign entity may adopt an assumed name for use in B.C. A name reservation is not required if the foreign entity is a federal corporation. Once your name is approved, it is reserved for you for a period of 56 calendar days. Any renewals of the reservation period will require payment of another reservation fee. A name will not be available if it is similar to the name of an existing company. This is so the public is not confused or mislead by similar corporate names. Refer to the Information on Reserving Your Corporate Name (PDF550KB) information package for procedure to apply for your name approval. Documentation: Once your name has been approved, refer to either the Information to Register a Foreign Entity (Formed in Canada) as an Extraprovincial Company in British Columbia (PDF689KB) or Information to Register a Foreign Entity (Formed Outside of Canada) as an Extraprovincial Company in British Columbia (PDF690KB) information package for the next step. Unless you are instructed to do so by registry staff, the regulation under the Business Corporations Act requires the electronic version of the Registration Statement to be filed on the Internet. Visit Corporate Online and complete your filing using a credit card or for BC OnLine customers, file using your BC OnLine account. Corporate Online has online help information and a video demonstration to help you through the process. For customers who do not want to file electronically, Dye & Durham can file on their behalf.
