Finance and Corporate Sector Policy

The Financial and Corporate Sector Policy Branch provides policy analysis and advice to government regarding the financial and corporate sectors generally, and in particular regarding:
- the regulatory frameworks applicable to credit unions, trust companies and insurance companies operating in British Columbia, the province’s securities market, and the sale of real estate, insurance and mortgages in British Columbia.
- the legal frameworks applicable to companies, societies, partnerships, condominiums, the use of personal property as collateral for loans and various liens.
The branch works in close association with government regulators including the Financial Institutions Commission, the Corporate, Personal Property and Manufactured Homes Registries, and the British Columbia Securities Commission to develop legislation and regulations to implement government policy with respect to the regulation of the financial institutions, corporate, real estate and securities sectors. The Financial and Corporate Sector Policy Branch also has the responsibility for the co-ordination of the non-budget legislation for the Ministry of Finance.
