Management Plan
Overview
Information management and technology planning, as well as continual improvements
to existing technology environments with changes to business requirements, infrastructure
upgrades, new standards and procedures, is critical to achieving the objectives
in this service plan.
The Ministry of Finance and the Public Affairs Bureau will continue to enhance
the following strategic information management and technology investments to improve
- Services to the public:
- OneStop Business Registry: provides integrated information and registration
services for businesses, primarily designed to allow British Columbia
entrepreneurs, owners and operators to interact more easily, expediently
and efficiently with government at all levels
- Corporate Online (COLIN): This system will integrate with other
services, such as OneStop Business Registry and BC government
authentication services to provide more seamless service to businesses
- Electronic Banking Initiatives: projects to (i) increase government
use of e-banking services such as Internet payments, telephone/PC banking
services, and pre-authorized debit; (ii) increase the functionality
of these services; and (iii) investigate new services such as BC Buy
Button, a common interface for internet credit card payment. As British
Columbia's government ministries make use of these services, citizens
and businesses will be able to complete more transactions and obtain
more services online
- Really Simple Syndication News Feeds: (available at www.news.gov.bc.ca/rss/)
This technology allows the public to choose the news they want and receive information
as soon as it is published to the government website.
- Internal operations for improved support of fiscal management, increased
efficiency, and improved management of risk:
- Debt Management System: will support prudent and proactive debt and
derivative portfolio management and performance measurement
- A new online application to help deliver the government’s visual
identity program. The application helps guide clients on how to apply the
BC Mark to various media – including office stationery, signage,
PowerPoint presentations and websites. The application enables authorized
staff to download the correct graphics files quickly and easily, by answering
a series of online questions
- Electronic Document Framework: for ease of information retrieval and
search in preparation for the implementation of a comprehensive document
management system
- Security Policy: continue to increase employee awareness of security
policy and risks through the use of information sessions, guidelines and
conducting Threat and Risk Assessments
- Payment Review/Continuous Controls Monitoring: exception/risk-based
review of selected government expenditures
- Risk Management Information System: Implement an integrated system to
manage incident, claim, risk mitigation, and insurance related data and functions.
