Graduate Development Program - How To Apply

Candidates must submit the application package to Treasury Board Staff on or before 4 pm PST on November 28, 2008. In order to be considered for the program, candidates must clearly demonstrate in their resume how they meet the required qualifications stated in the position description and MUST provide all of the following documents in their application package:

  • Completed application form;

  • Cover letter;

  • Resume; and

  • Unofficial transcripts from academic institution (most recent program required).

The application form (GDP Application DOC, or GDP Application PDF) provides critical information, including candidate contact information, education, work and volunteer experience and references. Application packages submitted without a completed application form will not be accepted. This form can be completed electronically and emailed to along with the other required documents or can be printed and sent in as a hard copy.

The cover letter provides the candidate with an opportunity to state why he or she should be considered for the program. Candidates are encouraged to discuss their career aspirations and goals.

The resume should contain educational background, work and volunteer experience, relevant skills and attributes, and any other information that illustrates the candidate's suitability for the position. The resume must clearly demonstrate that the candidate meets the recruitment criteria.

Unofficial transcripts can be sent electronically, or reproduced. A minimum of B+ average standing is required. Reference to gradepoint average alone is not sufficient.

If you have completed the requirements to graduate, but haven’t convocated yet, you are eligible for the program. Although we are aiming to start employment in April or May, we may consider a later start date if that is when qualified applicants are available. Please indicate your graduation date in your application package.

Selection Process

Recruitment will close at 4 pm PST on November 28, 2008.

Application packages will be provided to the selection committee for its review. The committee will contact qualified candidates for a written assignment followed by an interview process and presentation. Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview in Victoria. References will also be checked. Selection activities will start in December 2008 with successful candidates being offered positions in early 2009.
